Crew

Captain and Route Information Your tailored island-hopping itinerary ensures the exploration of a new Saronic Gulf or Cyclades island daily in the Aegean Sea. Departing in the mid-to-late morning, you'll sail for approximately 2-5 hours, depending on the route and winds, with opportunities to anchor in serene coves for a swim, relaxation, and lunch. By the afternoon, you'll reach the next island, conveniently docking or anchoring close to its main town where you can explore its shops, restaurants, activities, etc. Most importantly, planning itineraries in advance of your Greek island sailing charter isn't possible due to unpredictable wind speed, wind direction, and weather conditions. Flexibility, adventure, and trust in the captain are key. Upon arrival, you'll discuss island types, activities, and options with the captain, who will tailor the route based on evolving weather forecasts and your preferences. We often recommend clients opt for the Saronic route as it is often recommended for its stunning, authentic islands with shorter sail times and calmer seas. While the Cyclades route is available, it demands mild weather conditions due to long sail times and potential high winds and rough seas. A great option for guests desiring a Cyclades visit, taking a ferry (accessible within a 15-minute drive from Zea Marina in Piraeus) before or after the charter is suggested. Feel free to inform us if interested, and we'll happily assist in planning this part of your trip.

Boat rules

  • -The route is conditional on weather/wind conditions. *The captain always has the final decision on the route and is not authorized to sail any route where winds are force 6 or greater.
  • -The captain may occasionally require assistance from a passenger with raising sails or anchoring in ports
  • -We highly recommend gratuity for the crew at the end of the charter
  • -As your trip approaches we will send a series of pre-trip emails with the important information you'll need for your charter including packing, food/drink, arrival, etc.
  • CANCELLATION POLICY: All payments to us are non-refundable in case of guest-initiated cancellations. We strongly recommend that our clients purchase travel insurance in case of illness or other common causes of travel interruption. However, we understand that most insurance companies do not cover events like COVID pandemic. As a result, we offer a flexible rebooking policy if government travel restrictions prevent your journey to Greece during your charter dates. In this situation, we will apply all payments made as a credit towards rebooking your charter by the following season of travel resuming.

Location & Destination Guide

One of the great cities of the ancient world, Athens is a fascinating mixture of old and new begging for exploration. Although, and let’s be honest here, she isn’t the best looking city in Europe, you’ll find lots to do and plenty of fascinating historical sights. The must visit wonder of the Acropolis is the crown jewels of Athens, with many ancient monuments to explore. But if you want to get out of town there are a lot of opportunities for day trips from Athens.

FAQs

What type of yacht should I charter?
No matter what type of yacht you choose to charter, we know that you will have a fantastic time on the water. If you are more about the journey, and want a relaxing time aboard, then choose from one of the many sailboats on the platform. If you are more about the destination, and going fast, check out the powerboats on Sailo. For an exclusive experience, Sailo recommends chartering a luxurious yacht for the day. Finally, Sailo has access to many event boats as well for group outings from 50 - 1,000 guests. If you are still unsure, then just ask! Read more
What should I bring?
Bring yourself, and some comfortable clothes suitable to the season you are going to be out on the water. Please keep in mind that it is often 10 degrees cooler out on the water, so a jacket or windbreaker is never a bad idea. We also recommend bringing a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses, as well as a swimsuit if appropriate for your charter location. Please coordinate with your captain regarding any food or drinks that you wish to bring aboard. For term-charters, Sailo recommends using soft-sided luggage, and keeping it simple. Read more
How long does a rental last?
The basic daily rental is structured as either a quarter-, half-, or full-day. A quarter-day is two hours, a half-day is four hours, and a full-day is eight hours. You can also discuss a custom trip with the boat by contacting the owner through Sailo. Most term charters (weekly rentals) are from Saturday to Saturday. Keep in mind that the boat generally needs to be back at the dock by Friday evening, and you will need to be off the boat on Saturday morning so they can prepare the boat for the next guests.
