Boat rules

  • Here are just a few things to keep in mind to make your trip as pleasurable as possible:
  • -Please arrive at the docking location 15-20 minutes early so we can have your guests sign our waiver, . Guests may board only after the waiver is signed. Once on board and before departing we will conduct a short safety talk.
  • -Upon arrival, look for our crew, they will have electronic waivers to sign and direct you to the vessel.
  • -At times it can get cool on the bay, so we recommend long pants, long sleeves, a sweatshirt, and a windbreaker or coat, just in case. Flat, soft-soled shoes are best. No stilettos or black sole marking boots, please. They will be uncomfortable getting on and off the vessel and once underway.
  • -Are you asking yourself, "Am I going to have the time of my life aboard the boat?" Without a doubt! We all are passionate about sailing and showing others our beautiful bay and can't wait to have YOU onboard! We encourage you to jump in and help raise the sails or take the helm if you'd like. Simply ask our crew if the time is right and they will accommodate. We are always eager to answer questions about the history of our beautiful yacht or the Bay Area itself. We will do our best to educate you and entertain you as well. How involved you get is your choice. We know there is something to be said for kicking back with beverages and enjoying the iconic views. Who knows, you just might see wildlife like whales, harbor porpoises, sea lions and so much more. Everytime we sail there is magic to be found.
  • -Our first priority is your complete safety and following U.S. Coast Guard regulations. We operate a strict drug-free vessel. This means Absolutely no illegal drugs, of any kind, are allowed on board, including Marijuana, or products containing THC. We do not allow smoking or vaping anywhere onboard. Abuse of this policy will lead to early termination of your event.
  • -No alcoholic beverages may be brought on board, or carried off the vessel. Per our liquor license, no guest shall carry on or off our vessel any alcoholic beverage that is opened. Just like you can't BYO cocktails into a bar. Any non-alcoholic drinks must be unopened at the time of boarding and given to our crew.
  • -Our Captains are very knowledgeable about the many variables of San Francisco Bay. We typically cruise towards the central part of the Bay, giving vistas of the San Francisco city front, Alcatraz Island, Angel Island, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Bay Bridge, and the Richmond Bridge. The exact route depends on the winds, tides, currents, visibility, other shipping traffic and departure location. The captain makes the final choice on the route for that day. No route is guaranteed, speak with your captain on the day of your charter for any requests and they will do their best to accommodate them.
  • -Adult guests are not required to wear life jackets on board our vessels. However, they are always available for you if you choose to wear one. Our crew is very knowledgeable about all-things nautical. Please listen to them if they have a request for you and always follow their instructions. They can help you find blankets, pillows and items to make your day with us a dream on the water!
  • -We love to have kids onboard Gas Light! Please plan to have full supervision and entertain any children you bring with you. According to the U.S. Coast Guard, all children under the age of 13, or less than 90 pounds will need to wear a life jacket when on deck. We have child-sized and infant life jackets available for you to use.

Location & Destination Guide

Ah San Francisco! The City by the Bay is a maritime dream and one of America’s most iconic cities. Sailing in San Francisco is probably the best way to experience her in all her glory…

Many people say that this is one of the most European feeling cities in America, and with historic streets and a vibe that is still very alternative, it’s easy to see why. And, with so much to see and do on the water, sailing in San Francisco is a uniquely thrilling experience.

FAQs

What type of yacht should I charter?
No matter what type of yacht you choose to charter, we know that you will have a fantastic time on the water. If you are more about the journey, and want a relaxing time aboard, then choose from one of the many sailboats on the platform. If you are more about the destination, and going fast, check out the powerboats on Sailo. For an exclusive experience, Sailo recommends chartering a luxurious yacht for the day. Finally, Sailo has access to many event boats as well for group outings from 50 - 1,000 guests. If you are still unsure, then just ask! Read more
What should I bring?
Bring yourself, and some comfortable clothes suitable to the season you are going to be out on the water. Please keep in mind that it is often 10 degrees cooler out on the water, so a jacket or windbreaker is never a bad idea. We also recommend bringing a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses, as well as a swimsuit if appropriate for your charter location. Please coordinate with your captain regarding any food or drinks that you wish to bring aboard. For term-charters, Sailo recommends using soft-sided luggage, and keeping it simple. Read more
How long does a rental last?
The basic daily rental is structured as either a quarter-, half-, or full-day. A quarter-day is two hours, a half-day is four hours, and a full-day is eight hours. You can also discuss a custom trip with the boat by contacting the owner through Sailo. Most term charters (weekly rentals) are from Saturday to Saturday. Keep in mind that the boat generally needs to be back at the dock by Friday evening, and you will need to be off the boat on Saturday morning so they can prepare the boat for the next guests.
