Owner
I started my life in Broomfield, Colorado many moons ago, exploring the Rocky Mountains — hiking and snowboarding every chance I got — and enjoying the Mile High City of Denver before spending a few years in Boulder. Eventually the cold winters lost their appeal, and I found a renewing warmth in Key West. I threw out the suits I'd worn in Colorado offices and traded them for wetsuits; the cubicle and the pushy boss were replaced with open water, sea turtles, and pods of bottlenose dolphin.
I splashed into a life on the water as a Divemaster with Captain's Corner Dive Shop in 2007, and became a Captain for the same company in 2010. I've spent much of my career on the waters between Key West and the Dry Tortugas — starting out as a first mate on the Dry Tortugas National Park ferry, and these days I captain that same ferry on Fridays. There aren't many people who know that 70-mile stretch of ocean, Fort Jefferson, and the reefs out there better.
I bought my first boat, a World Cat 250 named "Laid Back," in the winter of 2011, and I've been sharing my love for South Florida marine life on private charters ever since. As those trips to the Dry Tortugas became what I loved most, I invested in a boat built for the journey: Colorado Blue, a fast, comfortable 32-foot Intrepid, chosen specifically for the run out to the park. Today, that means taking small groups to the places I know best — the Dry Tortugas, the sandbars, the reefs, and the quiet corners of these islands most visitors never see — at their own pace, on their own private charter. It's the life I traded those Colorado suits for, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
