Description

The perfect staycation for any occasion - sailing in the calm waters of Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge with our charter. This is a private excursion that includes Captain and crew, along with fare and beverages (no alcohol provided, byob). Deliverance is one-of-a-kind in NYC, a 40 Pilot Schooner designed by Atkin and Co out of Huntington, Long Island. Her spacious cockpit and decks provide the perfect t setting for small groups, whether to socialize or take in the surroundings. She is the only small schooner available for small private groups in the entire region.

Our sailing ground, Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, is NYC’s largest open space and a gem of the region. In general the waters of Jamaica Bay are much less busy than the waters of Manhattan/ Upper NY Harbor, Long Island or NJ, and well sheltered from the predominant seasonal winds. This gives our guests a fantastic opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of the city with an incredible view of the entire Manhattan skyline. We can drop the hook for lunch and a swim, or just keep her moving and enjoy the wind in your hair!

Cpt. Jarad has sailed the waters of NY for nearly 20 years, and has worked on several natural science research projects in Jamaica Bay during his tenure as Live Animal Curator st the Brooklyn Children’s Museum.. His knowledge of the area provides an excellent opportunity for our guests to discover flora and fauna as well as local history, all while have an amazing experience under sail. His lifetime on the water runs the gamut from power boats to sailing vessels to small tugs all along the Eastern Seaboard, with 50,000 nautical miles of open ocean sailing from the Northeast to the Caribbean, the North Sea and the Mediterranean.

Crew

Cpt Jarad grew was born in Southern NJ, spending most of his life on the rivers and coastal waters of the Eastern Seaboard. For the past decade, he has lived aboard a 42’ sloop with his wife and 2 children. Sailing to the Caribbean and back each winter. His experiences as a Captain run the gamut from Sailing vessels to small tugs, sport fishing and deliveries to the Caribbean, Mediterranean and beyond, with over 50,000 nautical miles of open-ocean sailing alone. First mate Christel has also garnered 50,000 nM under her keel, much in the open waters of the Atlantic and Caribbean, as well as the Mediterranean Sea. Her experience and charm are a welcome to all of our guests aboard the schooner Deliverance. 2nd Mate Alexis is a native of Rockaway Beach and avid sailor. In addition to her work as crew on local deliveries and with a local sailing club, she is currently enrolled in Kings County Colleges’ 200 ton Master program, seeking a deck license for tugs, small freighter and the like.

FAQs

What type of yacht should I charter?
No matter what type of yacht you choose to charter, we know that you will have a fantastic time on the water. If you are more about the journey, and want a relaxing time aboard, then choose from one of the many sailboats on the platform. If you are more about the destination, and going fast, check out the powerboats on Sailo. For an exclusive experience, Sailo recommends chartering a luxurious yacht for the day. Finally, Sailo has access to many event boats as well for group outings from 50 - 1,000 guests. If you are still unsure, then just ask! Read more
What should I bring?
Bring yourself, and some comfortable clothes suitable to the season you are going to be out on the water. Please keep in mind that it is often 10 degrees cooler out on the water, so a jacket or windbreaker is never a bad idea. We also recommend bringing a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses, as well as a swimsuit if appropriate for your charter location. Please coordinate with your captain regarding any food or drinks that you wish to bring aboard. For term-charters, Sailo recommends using soft-sided luggage, and keeping it simple. Read more
How long does a rental last?
The basic daily rental is structured as either a quarter-, half-, or full-day. A quarter-day is two hours, a half-day is four hours, and a full-day is eight hours. You can also discuss a custom trip with the boat by contacting the owner through Sailo. Most term charters (weekly rentals) are from Saturday to Saturday. Keep in mind that the boat generally needs to be back at the dock by Friday evening, and you will need to be off the boat on Saturday morning so they can prepare the boat for the next guests.
