The time spent on the water with Captain Martin was great!! It was a beautiful day, a pretty good breeze and lots of laughs! He has a lovely sailboat and, it goes without saying, that he is a wonderful captain!! We sailed from East Hampton and during our trip he gave us details about points of interest. Sail with Captain Martin! It's a wonderful experience: one you'll always remember!

Learning to sail was a pivotal experience for me. At the age of 14 I transitioned to the role of instructor. I spent summers away from my South Carolina home by instructing in various capacities up and down the East Coast.

After my sophomore year at Clemson University I moved to East Hampton to teach sailing at the Devon Yacht Club in Amagansett, NY. In 2010 I finished at Clemson with a degree in Community Sport, Recreation and Camp Management, and a minor in Business Administration. I then earned my captain's license and dove head first into a professional sailing career.

The first boat I joined was the 137' historic Roseway Schooner. I worked my way from deckhand to first mate in a matter of months, quickly realizing the sea was for me. Following the Roseway I spent 3 years serving as first mate aboard Far Bay, a 72' private sailing yacht. These jobs afforded me a wealth of hands on experience in offshore sailing as well as boat maintenance.

Come join me aboard my sailboat!

Location & Destination Guide

New York City looks great from the ground, but that view from the water is something else! Jump aboard a Sailo boat rental from the Big Apple and experience the thrill of the sea - and snap plenty of incredible pictures. Sailing in NYC is a must on your summer bucket list, whether you are visiting or a New Yorker.

It might not be the first thing you think of when finding things to do in New York City, but renting a boat for a full day or just a few hours is a truly memorable experience.

FAQs

What type of yacht should I charter?
No matter what type of yacht you choose to charter, we know that you will have a fantastic time on the water. If you are more about the journey, and want a relaxing time aboard, then choose from one of the many sailboats on the platform. If you are more about the destination, and going fast, check out the powerboats on Sailo. For an exclusive experience, Sailo recommends chartering a luxurious yacht for the day. Finally, Sailo has access to many event boats as well for group outings from 50 - 1,000 guests. If you are still unsure, then just ask! Read more
What should I bring?
Bring yourself, and some comfortable clothes suitable to the season you are going to be out on the water. Please keep in mind that it is often 10 degrees cooler out on the water, so a jacket or windbreaker is never a bad idea. We also recommend bringing a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses, as well as a swimsuit if appropriate for your charter location. Please coordinate with your captain regarding any food or drinks that you wish to bring aboard. For term-charters, Sailo recommends using soft-sided luggage, and keeping it simple. Read more
How long does a rental last?
The basic daily rental is structured as either a quarter-, half-, or full-day. A quarter-day is two hours, a half-day is four hours, and a full-day is eight hours. You can also discuss a custom trip with the boat by contacting the owner through Sailo. Most term charters (weekly rentals) are from Saturday to Saturday. Keep in mind that the boat generally needs to be back at the dock by Friday evening, and you will need to be off the boat on Saturday morning so they can prepare the boat for the next guests.
