The day of our trip people at our escort were saying that their fishing trips had been cancelled due to predicted high winds. At that point I contacted the boat owner to make sure all was still good. He replied yes and that the Captain and his helper were ready to go. We got there and boat was as advertised. We left at 11:00 am and at approximately 12:00 pm we were stopped by a police boat and ordered us to dock the boat immediately. Due to all ports being closed that day. The captain acted like he did not know. He was able to slip back out to open water and get us back to the place we were picked up. I was able to get documentation that the ports were officially closed at 7:00am for all navigation. We shouldn’t have been out on the water at all because of this official closing of ports. It was a scary experience that shouldn’t have happened. We were thankful to get back but almost were stranded at someone’s dock that we did not know. The owner of the boat has been less than helpful on our refund and I have had to file a dispute with my credit card company. My advice to anyone renting a private boat would be to go at your own risk and do not automatically think you are in good safe hands because were were blind sided by this and it ultimately ruined our day and still are trying to deal with getting a refund.

We had a great time, captain Margo was cool and we really enjoyed breaking up time at a resort to hop on this beautiful boat. I highly recommend this!

Location & Destination Guide

You don’t have to be a travel connoisseur to have heard about the infamous Cancun. Everyone knows Cancun as the city which boasts an endless choice of beachside resorts and nonstop nightlife. While the booming party scene may seem like the main reason to book a holiday in this part of Mexico, sailing in Cancun is also a major attraction.

FAQs

What type of yacht should I charter?
No matter what type of yacht you choose to charter, we know that you will have a fantastic time on the water. If you are more about the journey, and want a relaxing time aboard, then choose from one of the many sailboats on the platform. If you are more about the destination, and going fast, check out the powerboats on Sailo. For an exclusive experience, Sailo recommends chartering a luxurious yacht for the day. Finally, Sailo has access to many event boats as well for group outings from 50 - 1,000 guests. If you are still unsure, then just ask! Read more
What should I bring?
Bring yourself, and some comfortable clothes suitable to the season you are going to be out on the water. Please keep in mind that it is often 10 degrees cooler out on the water, so a jacket or windbreaker is never a bad idea. We also recommend bringing a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses, as well as a swimsuit if appropriate for your charter location. Please coordinate with your captain regarding any food or drinks that you wish to bring aboard. For term-charters, Sailo recommends using soft-sided luggage, and keeping it simple. Read more
How long does a rental last?
The basic daily rental is structured as either a quarter-, half-, or full-day. A quarter-day is two hours, a half-day is four hours, and a full-day is eight hours. You can also discuss a custom trip with the boat by contacting the owner through Sailo. Most term charters (weekly rentals) are from Saturday to Saturday. Keep in mind that the boat generally needs to be back at the dock by Friday evening, and you will need to be off the boat on Saturday morning so they can prepare the boat for the next guests.
