Brooklyn by Boat Rental - Discover New York City from the Water

Some would argue the best view of New York City is from the water. Escape the heat of Manhattan for a peaceful afternoon aboard a boat rental in New York City. Hop onto the yacht charter, hoist the mainsail and make way around the tip of downtown Manhattan towards Brooklyn.

Explore Brooklyn by boat and stop at some of old-time favorite New York establishments for a cocktail, fresh fish or to make your own barbecue! Over at Sailo, we think there’s nothing better than watching the sunset through the Manhattan skyline from a boat.

Sail Under the  Brooklyn Bridges

For those looking for a leisurely sail, pick up a boat rental in downtown Manhattan or southern Brooklyn. Round the tip of New York City and view Lady Liberty rising from the Hudson alongside your yacht charter. As you enter the East River, you’ll see the three infamous Brooklyn bridges ahead of you. Sail under the Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan Bridge and Williamsburg Bridge. Wave at all the tourists walking along the hot bridges with the comfort of a cool breeze at your back!

After passing the bridges, continue up the coast of Brooklyn for a magnificent view of midtown Manhattan.

Eat Lobster in Red Hook

What makes a summer day complete? A delicious lobster roll! Make way on your yacht charter towards Red Hook. Dock your boat rental  in Atlantic Basin, located at the westernmost point of Red Hook.

A short walk from the marina, Red Hook Lobster Pound features delectable lobster from Maine. You can dine in their quaint restaurant that makes you feel like you’re inside a boat, or take the food back to your yacht charter! Bring the lobster rolls back to your sailboat rental in NYC and continue your adventure.

If you’d like to walk around the Atlantic Basin marina, head to the Mary A. Whalen boat. At certain times, you can tour this historic oil tanker. They also  feature movie nights and gatherings on deck during the summer.

Bring sandwiches and a couple of beers for a long afternoon sail on your yacht charter to Coney Island. You’ll start your journey with the Manhattan skyline behind you. Make way under the Verrazano Bridge and be sure to snap some pictures along your journey.

With the mainsail in your hand and the sun on your back, take in the sights of Coney Island from your boat rental. From the sea, the whimsical and infamous ferris wheel and roller coaster rides take on a different character.

Turn around once you pass Coney Island and makeway back to Brooklyn. As you pass under the Verrazano Bridge and round the tip of Brooklyn, you will lay eyes on the setting sun behind the New York City skyline.

Head to Brooklyn Army Terminal

If you’re looking to walk among an air of naval history, hoist the sails on your yacht charter and make way to the Brooklyn Army Terminal in Sunset Park. You can dock in the transient docking spaces and disembark your boat rental to explore.

This terminal was the largest military supply base in the United States through World War II. Walk through the massive space that is now transformed to host  offices, eateries and events. If you time it right, you can take a tour of the base which they offer every two weeks.

After an afternoon of sailing and taking in the views of the New York City skyline, head to  ONE°15 Brooklyn Marina on your boat rental. Nestled in Brooklyn Bridge Park, this marina offers access to the serene waterside promenade and plentiful parks to relax in.  At the edge of the marina, there are several public barbecues and picnic tables. Bring charcoal, hotdogs and hamburgers and set up a barbecue for your NY sailboat mates.

You can watch the sunset over the Manhattan skyline from this dazzling vantage point. For a refreshing and delectable cocktail, walk down the pier to the Pilot Brooklyn. You’ll recognize the boat by it’s sunny white and yellow striped awnings. This boat turned restaurant features oysters to snack on, aperol spritzes and delicious rum cocktails.
