Owner Responsibilities

Exchange Criteria

Exchange Criteria

The Owner, or a delegate on his behalf, is solely responsible to walk the Captain through all safety features, vessel operation procedures, limitations on where the Captain can use the boat while on the water (i.e. United States navigable waters), and to document conditions of the vessel prior to the start of any rental. The Owner is solely responsible to verify that all U.S. Coast Guard required safety items are on the vessel and in working order. Any damage that is not documented by the Owner, or a delegate on his behalf, prior to the rental period is solely the responsibility of the Owner. By exchanging keys with the Captain, a temporary contracting employer working for the Renter, the Owner agrees to have completed all Sailo required exchange criteria.

Renter/Captain competence

Renter/Captain competence

While every reasonable attempt is being made by Sailo to convey the suitability of the Renter and the Captain, the Owner is ultimately responsible for establishing the Renter or Captain’s competence. If the Owner delegates this responsibility to a third party such as a Sailo affiliate or other person, the Owner gives such delegate his express permission to approve either the Renter or the Captain operating the vessel.
