Boat and Boat Owner Eligibility


In order to be able to list a boat on Sailo, the Boat Owner must meet all of the following eligibility requirements:

 

  • He/she must be at least 18 years of age;
  • He/she must be able to provide a current and valid ID;
  • He/she must have no felony or criminal convictions within the last 10 years;
  • He/she must possess a mobile phone and a valid e-mail address verifiable through a text message confirmation so that he/she can be reached through calls and messaging.

 

 

In addition, the Boats must meet all of the following eligibility requirements:

 

 

  • Have a Vessel Safety Check (VSC) performed by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary that must be resubmitted on a yearly basis (Note: this is a free of charge service provided by the U.S. Coast Guard)
  • Have one of the following Sailo Surveys provided depending on the category to which they belong that must be resubmitted every 2 (two) years
  • Boats that are 0-10 years old are entitled to perform a self survey inspection and must provide the “Sailo Self-Survey” proof of completion
  • Boats that are 11-25 years of age may be required to be surveyed by a representative of Sailo and must provide the ‘Sailo Survey’ proof of completion
  • Boats that are 25+ years of age may require a special written approval by Sailo and the “Full SAILO Survey” for those Boats to be listed on the Sailo website
  • Complete the “Check-in/check-out Sailo Survey” on a per transaction basis
  • Be well maintained through Regularly Scheduled Maintenance
  • Must have the proper insurance, registration, and any state or federally required licensing or other documentation
  • Must have an Insured Value of less than $2,000,000 in order to use the Sailo Insurance
  • Must have a top speed of less than 55 mph on the water in order to use the Sailo Insurance
  • Must have a minimum of one photo of the exterior of the vessel uploaded to the Sailo website to match the actual Boat description
  • Must not pertain to any of the following Boat types: a) jet-skis and/or personal watercraft, trimarans, houseboats permanently moored or incapable of navigation under their own power, racing vessels of any description, ferrocement vessels, custom/homemade vessels; b) carbon fiber or kevlar hulled/masted vessels; c) vessels modified in any way that is not endorsed or approved by the manufacturer.

Boat Eligibility Continued Monitoring


Sailo Boat Owners are expected to keep their exemplary standing and that of their Boats within the Sailo Community. Sailo may periodically monitor any records to ensure that a vessel listed on Sailo Site continues to qualify for eligibility under the Boat Eligibility Requirements. Moreover, in addition to the Sailo Community reviews, Boat and Boat Owner reviews can be triggered by a number of external notifications including, but not limited to the external notifications by any Sailo user, internal notifications received through the Sailo system and/or external notifications by the State DMV, U.S. Coast Guard or any national and international authority.

Boat Eligibility Documentation


The Boat Owner is required to notify Sailo of any changes to his/her or his/her Boat’s eligibility. Failure to notify and go through proper verification process will result in his/her account being deactivated. In addition, the Boat Owner will be personally liable for any and all damages and related legal fees, as well as boating insurance claims and damages originating to a malfunction of the Boat and/or the Boat equipment. In addition, Sailo may require any documentation necessary to establish vessel eligibility prior to its formal listing onto the Sailo website. Any subsequent form of approval and acceptance of such vessel into the Sailo Community shall be at the sole discretion of Sailo.
