How does using “Favorites” work?


Using our "Add to favorites" feature is quick and easy! Once you have opened up the listing of a particular vessel in which you are interested, simply click on the heart icon at the top right-hand corner of the photo. This will save the vessel to your list of Favorites in your Personal Profile. To remove a vessel from your list, simply open up the Favorites section, and click on the heart icon at the bottom right-hand corner of the photo.

You are not required to have a profile photo, but we strongly encourage you to upload one! Sailo is a community. Our renters, boat owners, and captains all feel more comfortable when they can see with whom they are interacting. A great photo is particularly relevant when giving and receiving community reviews on the platform.

To edit your profile photo, click on your name at the top right corner of any Sailo web page, and then select “Personal Profile.” Click the “Photos” link on the left-hand side of the screen. You will then be able to click “Add Photo,” and select a photo from your computer. You can add multiple photos to make your profile even more robust, but remember to choose your best one for the primary photo.

Notifications are system alerts that provide you with status updates whenever you either receive a new message or a booking request. Notifications are shown as a green number on the tabs pertinent to the notification category. You may see notifications in “Dashboard”, “Mailbox” and/or “My Trips” sections.

How do Ratings & Reviews work?


User ratings and reviews are a great way to build a community and guarantee an amazing experience for everyone on the Sailo platform. After each rental, the owner, renter, and captain can review each other and record details about their experience. In addition to describing the experience, reviews are a unique opportunity to build a good reputation within the Sailo community. A link to complete the review is sent to all parties via email after a booking has been completed.

To reset or update your login details, click on your name at the top right corner of any Sailo web page and select “Settings”. Then click on “Password” on the left-hand side of the page. You can update your password by entering your old password, followed by your new password. Confirm your new password and then click on “Update Password” to save the changes.

Once you’re logged in, click on your name at the top right corner of any Sailo web page and select “Personal Profile.” Use the links on the left-hand side of the Personal Profile page to edit different sections of your profile, including your description, contact information, photos, qualifications, and favorite boats!

What factors negatively impact my profile or boat listing?

What factors negatively impact my profile or boat listing?


There are several factors that can negatively impact your personal profile or boat listing including a low response rate, consistently negative reviews, multiple boat malfunctions, and the non-provision of services.

Response rate

The response rate is calculated as a percentage, and indicates how responsive a boat owner or captain is to inquiries and booking requests. A higher percentage indicates a more responsive boat owner or captain.

Negative reviews

After each rental, the owner, renter, and captain can review each other and record details about their experience. Consistent negative reviews will impact your standing in the Sailo Community!

Boat malfunctions

As avid boaters, we understand that boats can malfunction and breakdown; however we do want to make sure that the boats listed on the Sailo platform are maintained to high standards. If the unfortunate happens, and your boat malfunctions, Sailo will closely monitor the next three bookings to ensure that there is no recurrence. If the situation persists, it may result in the boat being unlisted from the platform.

Non-provision of service

As a captain, we expect you to provide excellent service to the charterer, and to treat each boat as if it were your own. If you fail to do so, we will closely monitor your next three bookings to ensure that you provide the level of service expected by the Sailo Community. If the situation persists, we will remove your profile from Sailo.

How do I create my profile?


Signing up and creating a Sailo profile is free and easy! Whether you are a boat owner, licensed captain, or renter, the easiest way to join the Sailo community is to sign up with your Facebook account, which automatically fills out a portion of your profile. You can also create a profile using your email address.

In order to ensure the best experience possible, please make sure your profile is complete with a short description about you, a photo, and an outline of your boating qualifications. Your boating resume should include boats you have captained, bodies of water you have navigated, certifications you possess, and notable passages you have sailed.
