Crew
Captain Brian & Kim are ready to welcome you aboard Southern Passage. They are an outgoing couple who love to entertain and look forward to leading their guests on new and exciting adventures. Our Crew brings a smile to every guest every day. Captain Brian Baskin is a lifelong sailor from Rochester, NY. He purchased his first sailboat at the age of 17 and has been sailing on the Great Lakes and Oceans ever since. Throughout the years Brian created and successfully ran a day charter business on Lake Ontario. After enduring one too many New York winters, he and Kim decided it was time to turn his passion into his full time profession. With his guests, Captain Brian loves to share his knowledge and respect of the sea, and currently holds his 100 ton USCG Master Captains License. Whether it be a day sail or an overnight private charter, Brian is best known for offering his guests safe and amazing journeys. As your Captain, Brian loves to make people feel at ease. With his fun and easy going demeanor, he will custom tailor your luxury experience to meet your expectations and desires. Brian’s very proud to say, “The memories our guests create aboard Southern Passage will last a lifetime, and we genuinely look forward to your visit.” First Mate/Cook Kim Larsen was born and raised in Upstate New York, where she spent many summers enjoying boating in the Adirondacks. After meeting Brian, he introduced her to sailing and together they ran a successful day charter business sailing on Lake Ontario. After working in the legal profession as a paralegal for 25 plus years, and in following the lifelong dreams of Brian, they decided to sell everything in Rochester, NY and relocate to St. Petersburg, Florida to share their love of sailing and charter life with the wonderful guests that come on board. Although not a chef, Kim enjoys cooking and to prepare for life as a charter cook, has attended cooking classes in the Tampa Bay area, where she perfected her skills. Kim looks forward to serving you delicious signature dishes we know you’ll enjoy.

FAQs

What type of yacht should I charter?

No matter what type of yacht you choose to charter, we know that you will have a fantastic time on the water. If you are more about the journey, and want a relaxing time aboard, then choose from one of the many sailboats on the platform. If you are more about the destination, and going fast, check out the powerboats on Sailo. For an exclusive experience, Sailo recommends chartering a luxurious yacht for the day. Finally, Sailo has access to many event boats as well for group outings from 50 - 1,000 guests. If you are still unsure, then just ask! more...

What should I bring?

Bring yourself, and some comfortable clothes suitable to the season you are going to be out on the water. Please keep in mind that it is often 10 degrees cooler out on the water, so a jacket or windbreaker is never a bad idea. We also recommend bringing a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses, as well as a swimsuit if appropriate for your charter location. Please coordinate with your captain regarding any food or drinks that you wish to bring aboard. For term-charters, Sailo recommends using soft-sided luggage, and keeping it simple. more...

How long does a rental last?

The basic daily rental is structured as either a quarter-, half-, or full-day. A quarter-day is two hours, a half-day is four hours, and a full-day is eight hours. You can also discuss a custom trip with the boat by contacting the owner through Sailo. Most term charters (weekly rentals) are from Saturday to Saturday. Keep in mind that the boat generally needs to be back at the dock by Friday evening, and you will need to be off the boat on Saturday morning so they can prepare the boat for the next guests. more...
